Callosobruchus maculatus or the Bean Beetle is an amazing little feeder that breeds quick and requires very little effort to create a large self-sustaining colony. They can climb smooth surfaces but do not require any extra food or water besides the beans. Bean Beetles will hatch out directly from the beans; eating them as they grow. Just add some more beans to the culture (black eyed peas or mung beans work great) when they have eaten most away. A small piece of paper towel roll or egg crate can be added to ease in dispensing the beetles. They can be dusted with calcium and offered to many smaller insectivores as a unique feeder. Small frogs, chams, geckos and mantids love these!
